ActionAid Malawi has trained 560 caregivers in Rumphi District since 2011 to address the knowledge gap in early childhood development (ECD) programmes. Speaking at the end of a two-week training workshop for 30 caregivers on Friday, ActionAid project officer Felix Mwale said the training sessions are part of the project to improve lives and the well-being of 25 000 children in the district. Rumphi District Council social welfare officer Joshua Luhana said apart from the training, the council provides incentives to the caregivers to motivate them.  He said the incentives are in form of village savings loan initiatives and goat pass-on-programmes. The project is being funded by the Roger Federer Foundation which has also constructed ECD model structures and satellite centres.
